When Chandler Unified School District introduced its first “back to basics” Traditional Academy concept, the timeline was short and the market demand was high. Chandler called on Modular Technology to do the impossible — design and build this new concept in 5 months. A simultaneous construction process was used — the building was constructed at the Modular Technology facility while the site infrastructure and slab was being developed. The Liberty Academy met with immediate student and parent acceptance requiring a 10-classroom expansion in the school's 2nd year. The second Academy, Freedom, anticipated demand and was designed at 46,000 square feet to accommodate 700 students. The school opens for the 2005 school year in Shamrock Estates, Gilbert. The Chandler School District, the fastest growing district in the Phoenix metro area, requires schools at an unprecedented rate. To accommodate their growth rate, the Academies were built using the Design Build delivery method and Modular Technology's accelerated construction process. The time between contract signing and occupancy by teachers and staff was 5 months. Using “traditional” construction, the process would have taken 14 –18 months. |
