A One-of-a-Kind Elementary School
Phoenix, AZ — On time, on budget and no change orders
are terms every construction company love to tout. Those terms are the
only way to describe the first-ever design-build elementary school funded
by Student's FIRST and approved by the state of Arizona's School Facilities
Board.
According to Dr. Philip Geiger, executive director of the School Facilities
Board, "Too often people confuse modular construction with portable
classrooms. Modular is a far cry from portables! When entering a modular
school, you cannot tell the difference between it and customary building
practices and the school will last just as long. For many districts, modular
provides the ability to meet the demands of an accelerated schedule and
a predictable product. Modular construction for schools is certainly here
to stay and for the Isaac School District, it served the communitys
needs well. For the School Facilities Board, it also met the financial
constraints under which we are operating."
Debbie Hutson, principal of Lela Alston Elementary School, has received
positive feedback from throughout the community. "This school is
a shining star in our community...a true asset. Most of our district's
schools are very old and overcrowded; when visitors, school officials
and teachers visit they are in awe over how beautiful the campus is and
how peaceful the atmosphere. The kids especially have great pride in the
school and have even formed committees so that they have an active role
in taking care of their home away from home."
