"Modular Technology was in constant contact with our administrative team to keep us up on progress and any details needed to complete the project."
             — Jeff Parker, School Superintendent

Modular Technology and their accelerated construction method was the clear choice to meet the stringent timeline for this new K-6 charter school in Apache Junction, Arizona for Excaliber Charter Schools.

In just 5 months, this 22,000 square foot facility on 4.4 acres was designed, built, and the bell rang for the first day of school. The campus includes:

  • 20 classrooms,
  • an administrative area,
  • a multi-purpose room,
  • a computer lab,
  • two play areas: one for kindergarten and the other for grades 1-6, and
  • a canopy drop off zone for parent convenience.

Energy efficiency was achieved through the strategic orientation & size of windows, and by creating a slanted alcove roof to allow natural light into the entryway—eliminating the need for artificial lighting.

The interior design focused on the ease of circulation for the children, teachers, and staff. Alcoves were added to each classroom to allow the doors to swing unobstructed and not impede traffic. Versatility was obtained by using multiple doors to restrooms allowing control of access to the classrooms or multipurpose room without interruption. The architectural arrangement of utilitarian elements — windows, doors, scuppers and expansion joints — was governed by a strict rhythm of pattern for optimal aesthetics.
