Award Criteria
- Architectural Excellence
Teamed with
renowned architectural firm, Leo Daly on more
than 50 Wells Fargos. Bank design is reflective
of the town’s rural roots & surrounding
center & is pedestrian oriented. The
building’s massive entrance is angled to align
with the pedestrian walkway from a greenbelt.
The stone is reminiscent of the stone used by
early settlers in their buildings & walls.
Colors, tones & hues found in the stone are
used on the building exterior. Massive columns
support the scale of the entry & draw the
eye to the Wells Fargo sign &, identify the
entry. Mass & architectural detail is added
to the drive through teller & shade trellis
by creating oversized column bases with matching
stone façade. The standing seam metal roofs were
antiqued to appear weathered, aged, &
farm-like. The Interior features elegant, warm
wood & ceramic tiled floors. An adjacent
pedestrian park is accessed via the trellised
walkway in front of the building. The park
features the same materials & design as the
building.
- Technical Innovation
Identical to
traditional construction, this permanent high
public use banking facility features
slab-on-grade foundation with a combination of
materials including EIFS, stone veneer, steel
accents, & standing seam metal roofs. The
steel provides strength & durability for
many years of commercial high public use. All
special systems, including bank-specific
equipment such as satellite connections, night
depositories, & drive-thru kiosks are
coordinated with the client & integrated
into the design. Extreme temperatures & low
humidity in AZ cause high maintenance, rapid
damage, & deterioration to exposed wood so
it was replaced with steel on trellises, shade
canopies, & architectural features to
increase lifespan. Taller parts of the
buildings, designed to create mass, were
manufactured as separate modules, craned &
connected to lower modules. Site amenities in
adjacent pedestrian park incorporates the same
building materials in pavers, benches, &
planter walls to tie it to the bank.
- Cost Effectiveness/Energy Efficiency
Customers equal bank
accounts, which can equal monthly revenues of
$1,000,000. Revenues of that magnitude make the
choice of rapid modular construction easy. Being
the first to market means Wells Fargo captures
market share in new markets. Arizona’s extreme
summers require energy efficiency. All our
facilities are steel with a 6” wall stud instead
of a 4” stud gaining R-value. The EFIS exterior
uses 1” insulation board for a net R-value of 25
for the wall system. Roof systems employ R30+
batt insulation & rigid foam insulation for
increased R-value & sound control. Our
electrical designs are 3-phase for minimal
energy use. This includes energy efficient HVAC
units that use scroll compressors &
programmable thermostats. The energy-efficiency
package includes 1” annealed, SOLEX dual
glazing, tinted windows. Close tolerances
minimize air infiltration into buildings. Acted
as general contractor for all infrastructure
& site improvements, including utility,
permit & developer
coordination.
